What a beautiful drive – this is one view, but there were many, totally enjoyed every mile.

Omg we made it to Arizona!

Petrified Forest National Park was pretty amazing..photos just don’t do it justice.

Old things collected along famous Route 66 – they call this the Mother Road.

This is where Route 66 intersected with the Park.

Clearly, Jim LOVES old cars.

Relics of another time when Route 66 cut across park lands.

We saw so many many trains crossing the open spaces.

Ancient petroglyphs at a place in the park called Newspaper Rocks.

Painted Desert

Lots and lots and lots of petrified trees.

Amazing vistas.

We brought our own shade on the walking trail.

Hard to believe that ancient trees turn into such gorgeous rocks!

There we are!

Unbelievable.

Nice paleontology museum.

And it was soooo hot!!

Relaxing after a long, wonderful day at the KOA campsite where we finally landed. We’ll be here in Holbrook, AZ for three nights..Jim has a lot of work to catch up on.

Grateful for a super nice, private spot, including a much-needed chance to do laundry.

Ok, y’all. If you know me (Margi), you know I’ve been a rock hound forever, and this place was rock hound heaven. We were absolutely blown away by Jim Gray’s collection of petrified wood and other geological treasures!

How is this possible??? Millions of years’ process, turning trees into glass??

Just imagine with me the collective amount of treasure in this pile of geodes.

We picked through this pile of petrified wood scraps to find a .5 lb collection that we got free with a KOA coupon..how fun!

Fossils

Astonishing

Amethyst from a giant geode.

Extremely rare green petrified wood, part of Jim Gray’s private collection and not for sale.

As soon as we have $16K to spare…

Jim just couldn’t resist.

YEEEHAWWW! Goodbye, Holbrook!

great photos! look for reptiles. they are the denizens of dry heat and have talent that you might want to survive.

Thanks, Joel! I’ve been looking out for snakes especially since they freak me out the most, but haven’t seen a single one or heard a single rattle so far.
